To Darryl by Debbi Dickinson
Was it a dream? It felt so real
the night you came to me.
Kneeling beside my bed,
you took my hand and said
“I haven’t left you, Deb.
I’m still here.”
In my heart, I know that may be
but I wish you were still beside me
instead of living on in memory.
“Til death do us part” sadly came
before we saw our wedding day.
You showed me love transcends death.
I heard your voice, felt your breath,
and the warmth of your embrace.
You said I was the wind
beneath your wings.
You were heaven-sent,
all that love could bring.
You were my joy, my life,
my everything.
You’ve gone now to another place.
Someday I will see your face
and look into your eyes of blue.
Someday we will say “I do”
to a heavenly love
meant for me and you.
